I was born in India and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. My fascination with the mind led me to UC Berkeley, where I studied Cognitive Science and Molecular & Cell Biology. Following graduation, I was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to the Champalimaud Foundation in Portugal, where I used behavioral and optogenetic tools to study the serotonergic system. I then returned to California to complete my MD/PhD at UC Irvine, investigating cortical circuits involved in memory processing through the use of two-photon microscopy and virtual reality.
Currently, I am a research-track psychiatry resident at UT Southwestern. My work has shifted from bench to bedside: I now lead clinical research trials investigating high-intensity tDCS as a therapeutic intervention for late life depression and cognitive decline. Beyond the clinic and lab, I am an associate editor for the American Journal of Psychiatry Residents' Journal and a dedicated science communicator, developing media projects that explore the technical and psychological themes of neuroscience.
